She is the daughter of Miyuki, who runs a mobile melon bread store, and helps out while attending school. She lost her parents in an accident and was taken in by Miyuki when she was still a child. While Rie has memories of her real parents, she sees Miyuki more as her mother.

Despite her young age, she has a cautious personality, and behind her salesy smile lies a sharp gaze always intent on observing others. Depending on the person, she can casually say or do harsh things or take advantage of their weaknesses, which often leads to her being perceived as a bad person. This is a reflection of her determination to protect Miyuki, who is kind and trusts others easily, and is also influenced by her somewhat obsessive-compulsive nature.

Even as she spends her days helping out with the mobile store, Miyuki always puts Rie first, and she tells her not to give up on her dreams. She also has a slightly more sensitive sense of taste and smell than most and is secretly studying to become a food critic or food coordinator in the future, hoping to help Miyuki.
