On the second day of the protagonist's holiday, Grendel and the protagonist are reminiscing about how they met. The discussion eventually leads to dark period in both their lives.
After continually being defeated by Grendel, the protagonist realises there is a mole in The Phoenix Custodians. Recovering from a brutal and unauthorised beating by Grendel's bodyguards, the protagonist gets his current secretary to search for the traitor.
Meanwhile, Grendel gets word that her bodyguards have been killed. With all evidence pointing towards the protagonist, she sets out for revenge.
