Umezu Mei

One of Karuta's friends. A very tall girl with a somewhat gloomy face; she is very serious, and often takes on the role of being the "responsible adult" if anything goes wrong. If she doesn't live in such a small village, where everybody knows one another, she would be mistaken for a grown woman constantly.

She is very refined and elegant, and enjoys silent movies and classical literature. She also likes tea (though, contrary to her character, her favorite type is marshmallow tea).

She wants to be a doctor, and studies hard every day to achieve this dream. As such, she doesn't have much time for playing around. Even so, despite her sophisticated manner, she has quite a dry sense of humor, and enjoys card games.
