Amber Phelps

Amber is a close friend and one of the main love interests of Jack De Santo (the main character of Origin Story). With her adoptive fathers, Amber moved to town about a year after Jack had already met and become best friends with Evelyn Palmer. Amber quickly joined Jack's cluster of close friends, and during this time she grew to love both Jack and Evelyn. Unfortunately, with Jack and Evelyn so focused on each other, she felt as though all she was was the friend in the background to them, the all but invisible "third wheel".

In a world where most people gain virus-induced super powers during puberty, Amber's state of mind apparently impacted the power she would develop. About a year after meeting Jack and Evelyn, Amber developed the power of uncontrolled (always on) invisibility. This real invisibility reinforced Amber's feelings of being unseen by the two people she wanted to see her the most, driving her into a deep depression that led to some very dark moments in her life.

With Jack and Evelyn's help, Amber made it through those dark days, even if she never shared with her friends quite how bad things had been for her. Over the coming years, Jack, Evelyn, Amber, and their quirky friend Fraser would become a tightly bonded group of close friends, spending most of their time together as outsiders to the popular student culture at their school.

While we learn from Jack that Amber was "cute" before turning invisible, she had never been intimate with anyone. Since developing her power, Amber has had little opportunity for romantic involvement with anyone, particularly since the only people she had interest in that way seemed to have placed her firmly in the "friendzone". Because of this, Amber continues to be a virgin, as are Jack and Evelyn.

A year before the story begins, on Evelyn's 18th birthday, Amber, Jack, Evelyn, and Fraser decide to go to Pendle Point together for a picnic and to get drunk. During these festivities, Jack and Evelyn make a half-joking pact to exchange their v-cards together the following year if they had not lost their virginities by their 19th birthdays. Because she knows how much Evelyn cares about Jack, Amber feels that this pact cements the bond between the couple with her to be permanently stuck on the outside of it.

Over the following months, Amber mostly resigned herself to losing any chance at intimacy, until the group crashed an Independence Day party about 2 months before Evelyn's birthday. After the party, Amber and Jack helped the totally hammered Evelyn home to her furious father, who then slammed the door in their faces (literally in Amber's case). Since Amber was supposed to be staying over with Evelyn, this ended up leading to her spending the night at Jack's rather than returning home to her fathers bleeding from the nose and drunk.

At Jack's, Amber insisted Jack show her his porn collection and the two resumed drinking rather than sober up. After drinking enough to both get truly plastered, Amber stated that she wasn't capable of making it to the guest room and asked to sleep there in Jack's bed. This led to the two of them beginning to play around, since Amber had stripped to her underwear while Jack was retrieving the alcohol earlier. Before things proceed too far though, Amber feels guilty for what she perceives as betraying Evelyn, so she stops their play before they really get started. Both of them resolve to forget that anything happened and to just go to sleep.

Despite this, Jack blearily awakened from an erotic dream to what was apparently a hand job from his invisible friend who, after finishing him, proceeded to make the mess he'd made on his stomach and chest vanish before he passed back out. Over the days since, Amber and Jack never spoke of this, and Jack seemed to have convinced himself that the entire episode was part of his erotic dream and had not actually happened.

As the story begins, Jack's birthday has just passed and Evelyn's birthday is just days away; neither of them has lost their virginity (nor has Amber, for reasons stated above). While Jack and Evelyn both play it cool, each of them is looking forward to completing their pact together, while Amber views events from the sidelines with unnoticed frustration and disappointment. As the time approaches, explosive events interrupt the plans to complete the pact and it is up to you as the player to decide whether Jack chooses to pursue a relationship with Evelyn after all, or whether Amber is finally seen.
