A sanatorium is a historical hospital for the treatment of chronic diseases, such as tuberculosis or severe mental disorders. The patients there would receive long-term recuperation under medical supervision.

In modern day, many sanatoria are health resorts and wellness centers offering therapeutic treatments, like hydrotherapy, physical training and dietetics.
