Ikuto was raised by his father, having lost his mother at a young age. He attended a technical school to become a nursery school teacher and started working part-time at a nursery school as part of his training. There he met Nozomi, a woman a bit older than him, who he came to admire after experiencing how she seemed to exude "maternity", which he had never felt before.

Then, one day, his father told him that he would remarry. And it was going to be with Nozomi! While confused and unable to hide his surprise at the sudden news, Ikuto became happy when he realized that the woman he looked up to would become his stepmother.

After that, on the day that Nozomi was to move in with them, his father ran in with an overjoyed look. His father was a professor of entomology at a university, and he told them that he had just got the news that the long-term insect research study deep in the Amazon that he had been eager to go to for quite some time had finally been approved. Nozomi fully supported his work, so she readily agreed to stay behind.
