Tantou

This character is seen carrying a tantou.

The tantou is commonly referred to as a knife or dagger. The blade is single or double edged with a length between 15 and 30 cm. It is shorter than it's successor - wakizashi, it's sides also generally have no ridge line and are nearly flat.

It is usually used as a weapon, although its use can be more ceremonial (seppuku suicide ritual) or even strictly ornamental.
