Twelve Ultimate-level students arrive at Hope's Valley Military Academy to serve as its founding class in a new program devised by society's brightest minds. The training's objective is noble: to create Ultimates capable of resisting the Killing Games, rooting out Agents of Despair, and surviving to carry on those techniques.

Victor Leeds, the Ultimate Researcher, enters into the game, only to be presented with a mind-bending set of twists right out the gate from his closest subordinate: that he's the creator of the game, he's given himself partial amnesia, and that all of the other participants are automatons created in his own laboratory!
